Confronting Environmental Issues : Challenges and Perspectives / Tattwamasi Paltasingh and Renu Tyagi

The world is overcrowded, polluted and hence ecologically fragile and vulnerable to disasters. The environmental disasters can occur in various ways like acid rain, ozone depletion, global warming, El-Nino cycles, floods, earth quakes, cyclones, tsunami and other forms of calamities. Activities that gear up only towards economic and technological development affect the vital components of environment Le. air, water and soil. Subsequently aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems are affected to the extent that quality survivals of living organisms can be questioned. Striving towards wealth and technology has no doubt added to certain extent of material benefits to the individuals, but it is a threat to the healthy environment. Natural resources are exploited and used excessively with minimum concern for survival of the future generations. In order to control and prevent the environment extremes, many policy initiatives are introduced at national as well as at international level. However a much coordinated and environment friendly approach is needed that can be practically implemented.
